Gear mechanisms are used to transmit motion and power between two shafts and are the most widely used transmission mechanisms. They achieve transmission requirements through the meshing of gear teeth. Therefore, compared with mechanical transmissions such as friction wheels and pulleys, their significant advantages are: stable transmission ratio, reliable operation, high efficiency, long service life, and a wide range of applicable diameters, circumferential speeds, and power.

Cylindrical gears are an important type of gear in mechanical gears and are also the most common gear style. Based on the direction of the teeth, cylindrical gears can be divided into spur gears, helical gears, and herringbone gears.
